The Moroccan hammam is one of the world's most complete skin purification rituals — a centuries-old practice rooted in North African wellness culture. It takes the body through five progressive stages, each designed to open pores, eliminate dead skin cells, draw out impurities and deeply nourish the skin from within.
At Novel Wellness Spa in Abu Dhabi, we use authentic Moroccan ingredients: savon beldi black soap made from olive oil, a traditional kessa exfoliation glove, ghassoul clay sourced from the Atlas Mountains, and finishing argan oil pressed from Moroccan argan trees. The result is skin that is visibly transformed — brighter, smoother and profoundly renewed.
This treatment is especially popular among guests seeking skin rejuvenation, detoxification after travel, or simply a ritual that provides something far beyond an ordinary spa visit.
Each stage builds on the last — working progressively deeper to reveal your skin's natural radiance.
Warm steam opens the pores and softens the skin — preparing the body to receive the full benefit of each subsequent stage. This phase also relaxes the muscles and calms the nervous system.
Authentic savon beldi — a traditional Moroccan black soap made from olive oil and eucalyptus — is applied generously across the body. Left to penetrate for several minutes, it deeply softens the skin and prepares the surface for exfoliation.
A traditional kessa mitt is used in firm, rhythmic strokes to lift and remove the softened dead skin layer — revealing fresher, smoother skin beneath. This is the signature stage of the hammam and produces immediate visible results.
A mineral-rich ghassoul clay from Morocco's Atlas Mountains is applied to cleanse the skin at a deeper level — drawing out remaining impurities, tightening pores and balancing the skin's natural oils without stripping moisture.
The ritual concludes with the application of pure Moroccan argan oil — rich in vitamin E, omega fatty acids and antioxidants. Skin is left supple, glowing and deeply hydrated. The effects last for days after your visit.
